The profile permission page has been enhanced to make the process of managing profiles easier. The following document highlights all the changes and will help you to adapt to them with ease.
Earlier, the related permissions were not changed automatically based on the basic permission, you had to make the changes individually. For example, a user without create permission can import leads if that permission was not disabled.
Now, these related permissions rely on their corresponding basic permissions, which means that the access given to a particular profile user does not exceed his limitations. If a module is disabled it won't be available for the remaining permissions.
Permissions | Pre-requisite permission |
Import | Create |
Export | View |
Send Email | View |
Mass Email | Send Email |
Delete Email | Send Email |
Mass Update | Edit |
Mass Delete | Delete |
Change Owner | View |
Mass Transfer | Change Owner |

Print View | View |
Sheet View | Create and Edit |
Find and Merge | Edit |
Earlier, there was no option to enable permissions like change owner, send email, delete email, print view, sheet view and find & merge for specific modules alone.
Now, while extending the permissions you can also specify for which modules these should be enabled.
Before, you had to unselect all modules to disable a single permission or vise versa. You had to go through each of the permissions and make the required changes.
Now, you can disable permissions with just a single click. Incase you want to enable the permission only for certain module, you can select only those that are needed from the drop-down list.
Earlier, the profile permissions were not arranged in particular order and you had to search for each permission to enable or disable it.
But now, the module permissions are grouped in the same way that they appear in the CRM and the Setup permissions are grouped similar to the Setup page, making it easier for you to find them. The navigation panel to your left takes you to the exact permission you need.
Before, to view the users associated to a profile, you would have to go to the Users and Control page.
But in the new version, you can see a list of users who are associated to the profile by clicking on the View Users button on the right corner of the Profile Details page, which means that you do not have to go to the user details page to view them.
Not all the users will be required to have the setup permissions. Earlier to enable / disable the setup permissions, you had to disable all the setup permissions individually.
Now, you have the options to enable / disable all the setup permissions in a single click. This may come in handy when you have to create profiles that do not need configuration permissions. For instance, a salesperson would not be required to have access to the Setup Permissions.
Earlier, there were two different pages for viewing and editing the profile permissions. You can save a profile when you have completed editing the permissions.
Now, you can edit the permissions on the same page and you don't have to worry about saving your progress with the instant save feature. You don't have to keep switching between edit and view pages.
Earlier Tab Group Permissions were present at both the Tab Groups Settings as well as the Profile Permissions Page.
Now, these permissions are available only under the Tab Groups settings page and have been removed from the Profile Permissions.
